Pedestrian Self-Propelled Trencher
AFTraction
Pedestrian self-propelled trencher for small-scale projects
Available to purchase through TrenchWorks in New Zealand

Best For
Suited to These Applications
- Irrigation lines
- Cable laying
- Drainage
- Curb stone installation
- Restricted-access sites
The AFTraction is a compact, walk-behind trencher for small-scale projects where a tractor or excavator simply won't fit — paths, gateways, gardens and other restricted-access sites. Powered by a 13hp Honda engine and running on wide, turf-protecting rubber tracks, it gives one operator precise, multidirectional control for irrigation, cabling and drainage work in tight spaces.
Why Consider It
- Fits through standard garden gates and narrow paths
- Wide rubber tracks protect turf and reduce ground pressure
- Multidirectional movement — forward, backward, left, right
- All controls within easy hand reach of the operator

Is This the Right Machine for Me?
The AFTraction is built for the carrier types listed above, trenching to 0.6m at widths of 110mm or 160mm. If your project sits within that range it's a strong candidate — but ground conditions, site access and the exact outcome you need all matter too. Use the Find My Trencherquiz (on the right on desktop, or in the menu on mobile) for a starting recommendation, then talk to TrenchWorks to confirm it's right for your site before you buy. See the Trenchers NZ buying guide for how this machine compares across the full range.
